Sensitivity Labels in M365 for Groups ,Teams, Sharepoint Sites - Experience
Updated: Jun 9, 2022
To clarify:
Applying these Labels doesn’t result in emails or documents being automatically labelled , but instead the label settings protect content by controlling access to the container where content can be stored. These settings include privacy settings, external user access and external sharing and access from unmanaged devices.
Creating Groups with Sensitivity Label
Is there a difference in creating Groups with Sensitivity Labels in Azure or M365?
Lets see..
Group "Finance Confidential" created in Azure with Sensitivity Label
Group "Finance Confidential" appears in M365 automatically as "Private"
Group "Project Confidential" created in M365 with Sensitivity Label
I created a Group " Project Confidential" in M365
with Sensitivity Label "Confidential Groups" and was curious if this would go through with Privacy Settings "Public".
There is no warning at all.
At the end, the process of creating the group is not finished and a warning tells you "You can't change group privacy because a sensitivity label is assigned to the group" . Aha !
Again with Privacy setting "Private".
I am allowed now to create the Group and Add Microsoft Teams to my Group.
This is how it looks in Azure.

This is a great way to label containers in M365. I wish there would be just a switch on/off button. By creating M365 Groups in M365 Admin Center you get definitely more automatic options , like to add Teams into your Group .
